Monitor the Monitor

by Rococo Fair (J. Colgan, T. Pearson, C. Wright)

You said love is better in red. I pretended to understand how your lenses, wires and cases align. You said love is better in green. Overwhelmed, I nodded agreement; I told you so, but you were watching movements on surveillance cameras.

So paint some eyes on the lids of your eyes... look at me while you are sleeping... and hold your steady gaze until the morning.

You said love is better in blue. Then I knew, oh then I knew, that the total image would blind out the view. Me? I say love is better in the dark. Cut the wires and savour the spark! We don't need cameras! Don't need screen-light! Don't need artificial whiteness!

So paint some eyes on the lids of your eyes... look at me while you are sleeping... and hold your steady gaze until the morning.

Monitor the monitor! Monitor the monitor! Monitor the record-keeper's needs! CCTV screens... see or be seen... monitor me...

The original demo for this song - under the working title Isthmus - was the product of a rare studio session with only drums and bass. Chris then worked up the vocal line before Thomas added the final lyrics.
